Whole House Heat Treatments
Whole house heat treatments are highly effective for eradicating bed bugs. These treatments exploit the thermal sensitivity of bed bugs and their life stages, causing them to perish when exposed to temperatures beyond their threshold. To achieve optimal results, it is crucial to reach and maintain a specific temperature for a designated duration. For instance, adult bed bugs require a sustained temperature of 113 degrees Fahrenheit for 90 minutes to ensure their demise. Meanwhile, bed bug eggs necessitate a temperature of 118 degrees Fahrenheit for the same duration to achieve 100% mortality. It is important to note that successful heat treatments require uniform heating throughout the entire house, including challenging areas like wall cavities, crawl spaces, and attics. Failure to permeate every corner of the dwelling may result in bed bugs escaping to untreated zones, leading to a resurgence of infestation after the heat treatment ends. To guarantee complete extermination, industrial heaters are often utilized to raise the internal temperature to an average of 140 – 145 degrees Fahrenheit for 6 – 9 hours. This extended exposure helps ensure that even the most inaccessible spaces are thoroughly heated, effectively eliminating all bed bugs and their eggs. While alternative methods such as single room heat treatment and steam cleaning can also be employed, their effectiveness may diminish if bed bugs are able to evade the heat during treatment.
